King’s School, Worcester – Director of Music

King’s Worcester (935 boys and girls, 11-18) is looking for an inspirational and experienced musician to lead its impressive music department from September 2013. Music is taught at GCSE and A level. Extra-curricular music has been a traditional strength, based principally on Classical music but embracing many other genres too. A steady stream of Organ and Choral scholarships to Oxford and Cambridge colleges over the years, as well as a number of places and awards at specialist music colleges, have underlined the strong link between practical and academic musicianship at the school. Regular big musical productions in our 310 seat theatre have been central to the activities of the department.

The close connection of the school with Worcester Cathedral has enriched the musical life of the school in many ways, not least through the involvement of both boys and girls from the school in the cathedral choirs and through our regular use of the building for services and assemblies. College Hall, once a medieval monastic refectory and now our assembly hall, must be one of the finest concert settings for any school in this country.
